If your claim for disability benefits is denied, you have the right to appeal that decision. Often, claims are denied because the applicant did not provide complete medical documentation or submit any medical evidence. It is not unusual for a claim to be rejected because of errors made by the applicant; however, there are other reasons why a claim might be denied. Most often claims are denied because you say you are disabled but Social Security says that you’re not. In such cases, the controversy must be adjudicated.
The appeal process includes asking for reconsideration, a hearing before an administrative law judge (ALJ), a review by the Social Security Appeals Council, and a Federal Court review. All of which takes unfortunately many months.
